Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistant

Hours: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm, Monday to Friday (Term Time Only) Contract: Temporary (1 Year in the first instance) Start Date: September 2026

Are you looking for a rewarding role where you can make a real difference in a child's early education? Our welcoming primary school is seeking a dedicated Key Stage 1 Teaching Assistant to join our team for the upcoming academic year.

This is a vital role focused on the core morning sessions, where the foundations for lifelong learning are built.

The Role

Working alongside our Year 1 and Year 2 teachers, you will provide essential support during the most critical hours of the school day. Your presence will ensure that our youngest learners receive the individual attention they need to flourish.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Literacy & Phonics: Support the delivery of daily phonics and reading sessions. Help children develop their decoding skills and foster a love for books.
  • Classroom Support: Assist the class teacher in managing learning activities and preparing resources.
  • SEN & Inclusion: Work closely with pupils who have Special Educational Needs (SEN), providing the patience and tailored support they need to access the curriculum.
  • Small Group Work: Lead small groups in English and Maths to help reinforce key concepts and boost pupil confidence.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who is energetic, empathetic, and ready to dive into the KS1 environment.

Essential Criteria:

  • Previous experience working with or volunteering with children.
  • A positive, "can-do" attitude and the ability to work as part of a close-knit team.
  • Strong communication skills and a patient nature.
  • A commitment to inclusive education and supporting children of all abilities.

Desirable Criteria:

  • Knowledge of Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised or other systematic phonics schemes.
  • Experience in supporting pupils with specific SEN requirements (e.g., ASD, ADHD, or Speech & Language needs).
