Main purpose
Due to the growth of our school, we are looking to appoint a Teaching Assistant to join our dedicated team and make a lasting impact on the lives of our students. In this role, you will be responsible for supporting our SEMH students in lessons and during interventions.
The successful candidate will work in a secure and supportive environment that helps pupils with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties overcome their challenges.
The position requires a candidate who can build relationships with children with SEMH difficulties and work in collaboration with colleagues to create an inclusive and supportive environment that is conducive to learning. The Teaching Assistant and students benefit from small class sizes that help nurture achievement.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties and responsibilities
● To support the curriculum for both key stage 3 and key stage 4
● To support with the delivery of the extra-curricular programme
● To work 1:1 during periods throughout the day to deliver interventions relevant and bespoke for our student
● To support with developing offsite activities, in line with personal development and extra-curricular programme
● To ensure that resources are available to staff when required
● To raise attainment for all young people
● To consistently plan, prepare and deliver high quality and engaging interventions for all students
● Assist teachers with creating lesson plans and learning materials to allow students
● to access the curriculum.
● Work with other children with a range of SEMH challenges to deliver education or
● improve their skills.
● Support children’s learning needs, boost their confidence, and encourage them to
● participate in the classroom.
● Organise and lead activities to improve class members’ social skills and
● communication abilities.
● Help teaching staff with administrative tasks.
PERSON SPECIFICATION
Experience
● previous experience in supporting students with SEMH needs, using evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches is desirable.
Skills and knowledge
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with students, staff, and parents
● Commitment to continuous professional development and a willingness to share best practises with colleagues
● Ability to foster a safe, inclusive, and positive learning environment, using trauma-informed and attachment-aware approaches
● Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritise and manage multiple tasks effectively
