An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Dacorum Borough Council's Planned Works and Adaptations Team as a Disabled Adaptations Surveyor.

This is a rewarding role where you will directly contribute to improving the lives of residents by delivering high-quality adaptations that enable people to live safely, independently, and with dignity in their own homes.

Working closely with Occupational Therapists, residents, contractors, and housing colleagues, you will be responsible for surveying properties, developing specifications and scopes of work, and managing adaptation projects from initial referral through to completion. Projects will range from minor adaptations to complex major works, including accessible bathrooms, stairlifts, ramps, and property alterations.

What you'll be doing

Producing specifications, drawings, and schedules of work for disabled adaptations.

Managing adaptation projects to ensure delivery on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.

Working collaboratively with Occupational Therapists and residents to develop practical and effective adaptation solutions.

Managing contractors and monitoring works on site to ensure compliance with Equality Act 2010, Building Regulations, health and safety requirements, and contractual standards.

Monitoring budgets, project programmes, and performance targets.

Supporting residents throughout the adaptation process, providing clear communication and managing expectations.

Assisting with complex customer enquiries and complaints, ensuring positive outcomes wherever possible.

What we're looking for

Experience in surveying, construction, property maintenance, or adaptations delivery.

Knowledge of Equality Act 2010, Building Regulations, Construction Design and Management (CDM) Regulations 2015, and residential construction practices.

An understanding of disability adaptations and inclusive design principles would be advantageous.

Strong project management, communication, and stakeholder engagement skills.

The ability to build effective relationships with residents, colleagues, contractors, and partner organisations.

A customer-focused approach with excellent problem-solving and negotiation skills.

The Council is going through a major change as part of Local Government Reorganisation (LGR) and devolution. This means that the district and borough councils in Hertfordshire will be replaced by a smaller number of new unitary councils.
