About the Borough

Found in zone 6 with good transport links in and out of London, Kingston is a vibrant and diverse university town which creates the rich sense of community shared across the borough and its Residents. Kingston boasts an idyllic riverside location, good shopping and great restaurants, as well as a mix of modern and historic town centre. Kingston has lots of open parklands and cycle routes that help connect the district town centres into an enjoyable place to live and work.

We are passionate about working closely with our residents and vulnerable groups to help them maintain their independence and create a balance between support and independent living.

About the Service and Team

Kingston Music Service (KMS) nurtures young people in the Royal Borough of Kingston regardless of background to create, perform, be inspired by and celebrate the music they love; reaching all corners of the borough, ensuring children who want to make music are able to. Each week, our skilled team of approximately 60 tutors provides instrumental and vocal lessons to over 1,500 pupils in schools and music centres. KMS hosts a variety of events, including primary singing festivals, family concerts, and school workshops. Our 11 ensembles, which feature String Orchestras, Jazz Bands, Percussion Ensembles, and Concert Bands, perform regularly throughout the year.

The Kingston Library service runs 7 libraries throughout the borough and the Heritage Service runs the popular Kingston Museum and Heritage Centre. Both work with schools and families to bring a range of activities to the local community. The Culture and Heritage Service also develops partnerships with many local charities including the Rose Theatre, Creative Youth and Kingston International Film Festival.
