Job Title: Strategic Surveyor
Salary: £53,460– £61,638 per annum
Grade: G
Contract Type: Fixed Term (24 Months)
Working Hours: 37 hours per week

About the department

The Facilities Management Team sits within Thurrock Council's Place Directorate, which is responsible for managing and maintaining the council's operational estate and ensuring buildings remain safe, compliant and fit for purpose. We deliver a wide range of services including planned and reactive maintenance, compliance with statutory regulations and workplace optimisation. Our work underpins the council's ability to provide essential services to the community by ensuring the effective management of public assets and contributing to Thurrock's sustainability and transformation goals.

About the Role

As a Strategic Surveyor, you will be responsible for:

  • For the management and monitoring for hard FM budgets and contracts (circa £1.2m per annum) to ensure the service delivers consistent in budget and meets all savings and income targets.
  • To provide support for contractors and consultants within the team, setting targets and monitoring performance and taking corrective action as required
  • Working with the Facilities Operations Manager and Head of FM to develop the direction of the service through performance reviews and professional knowledge
  • To put in place appropriate procedures and contracts in respect of statutory and regulatory compliance (asbestos, common legionella etc) and building condition surveys across all council properties etc
  • Support the scoping procurement and management of third party works and services in support of delivery of all hard FM services
  • Support the effective engagement with the building users so that any issues are identified at the earliest opportunity.

This role offers the chance to make a real difference by supporting the way the hard FM contracts and managed and delivered to create a real change in the property portfolio.

What We’re Looking For

We’re looking for someone who has:

  • HND/ degree level electrical or a mechanical discipline with extensive experience in the management of planned and reactive maintenance
  • Project Management
  • FM membership (IWFM) OR RICS or an equivalent
  • Detailed practical knowledge of Facilities Management related regulations and statutory requirements irrespective of health and safety and compliance.
