The Role

Are you a dedicated social worker looking to make a real difference in the lives of young people and their families?

Do you want to be part of an innovative, specialist team that prevents family breakdown and supports young people to remain safely at home?

If so, this is the perfect opportunity for you!

About The Team:

The Keeping Families Together team is a specialist, systemic unit within Children’s Social Care, working with young people aged 11-17 who are at risk of entering care - or who are in care but have the potential to return home. Through intensive, multi-modal interventions, we collaborate with families and professionals to create lasting, positive change.

We operate within a small, tightly supervised unit that benefits from strong clinical support and a systemic approach, ensuring every intervention is evidence-based and focused on the best outcomes for young people and their families.

What You’ll Do:

  • Provide intensive, targeted support to families, helping young people remain at home safely.
  • Work closely with families and stakeholders to agree on a single set of goals.
  • Use systemic analysis and evidence-based interventions to drive meaningful change.
  • Contribute to long-term stability for families, ensuring the best possible outcomes for young people in Southwark.

To be considered for this rewarding role, you will need:

  • Social Work England registration and a recognised social work qualification.
  • Successful completion of your Assessed and Supported Year in Employment (ASYE).
  • At least two years of post-qualifying experience in statutory social work.
  • A strong understanding of childcare legislation, statutory guidance, and child development.
  • Experience in assessment, intervention, and planning within a statutory setting.
  • Excellent analytical and decision-making skills.
  • A commitment to anti-discriminatory practice and addressing inequality.
  • This post requires a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) DBS check at Enhanced level.

The Benefits of Joining Our Team:

  • A protected caseload, ensuring you have the time to focus on meaningful interventions.
  • Work within a highly reflective systemic environment, using an innovative approach to support young people and families experiencing relationship difficulties.
  • Training in the STAIRS model of intervention, with ongoing coaching and clinical support from the Team Manager and Clinical Practitioner.
  • A fully integrated and effective practice coordinator to assist with practical and business matters—so you can focus on the work that truly matters.
  • More time for direct work and relationship-based interventions with families, allowing you to make a deeper impact.
