Overview

The London Borough of Harrow is seeking a dedicated Social Worker to join our Children & Young Adults 18–25 Disabilities Service. This role offers a significant opportunity to act as a vital bridge for young people and their families during the critical transition into adulthood. As the post holder, you will deliver a strengths-based service designed to empower individuals and their carers, ensuring they remain deeply connected to their local communities while maintaining maximum independence.

In this position, you will work collaboratively with young people to identify their personal goals and desired outcomes. Your focus will be on providing genuine choice and control over service delivery, ensuring all practice aligns with current legislation and local authority policy. Because this role operates within a complex landscape of support, exceptional communication skills are essential. You will be expected to work with a wide range of agencies in a multi-disciplinary way to ensure the seamless coordination and efficient delivery of services.

The successful candidate will be a flexible practitioner capable of working across the diverse geographical area of Harrow and supporting various teams within the directorate as required. As the role involves regular travel for business purposes to meet with service users and partners, a full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle are highly desirable. This is an impactful role for a professional committed to promoting the rights and independence of young adults with disabilities.


About You

The successful candidate will have:

  • A working knowledge of relevant legislation e.g., Care Act 2014, Mental Capacity Act 2005 etc, government guidance regarding safeguarding etc and including welfare benefits.
  • Knowledge of a range of interventions and services provided by social services and other agencies including the private and voluntary sector.
  • Knowledge and understanding of discriminated against groups and the ability to ensure that services are appropriately delivered to meet their needs.
  • Ability to achieve positive change through a strength- based approach to problem solving, whilst building empathic and supportive relationships with people and carers.
  • Demonstrate an ability to structure own time and to prioritise competing demands to ensure all essential work is completed.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to produce and use workload information and acquire skills to use IT systems as available.
  • Experience of working with people with physical/learning / sensory disabilities or older people and their carers.
  • Appropriate qualification i.e.BA in Social Work, DIPSW, CQSW, CSS or equivalent.
  • Registration with Social Work England.
  • Willingness and ability to undertake duties outside of conventional office hours as and when necessary.
