Providing a service to all persons affected by adoption including birth families, adoptive
families and adopted adults.
Contributing to the development and provision of the adoption service, in accordance with adoption legislation, regulations,guidance, national standards and departmental policies.

Blaenau Gwent CBC is offering an exciting opportunity to join its children’s social care workforce. We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic Social Worker with a commitment to adoption as a positive outcome for children, to join the South East Wales Adoption Team. Our team provides an excellent service to adoptive families across the region and we are committed to continuous improvement through raising standards and improving outcomes for children and families.
You will be involved in providing a child-centred, outcome-focused adoption service to all those involved in and affected by adoption, so you will preferably have experience of child care social work. The service currently offers a wide range of provision including recruitment and assessment of prospective adopters, matching and placing of children for adoption, and a range of support provision including individual counselling, direct work with children and group work and focused activities. The post holders will also help to develop links with community based services throughout the region, deliver on the priorities for adoption support and recruitment. You will work closely with social workers in the locality child care teams and offer guidance and support to colleagues as necessary. The current vacancy is a permanent position in our recruitment and assessment team. You will be expected to assess and support prospective adopters and facilitate their training. You must be registered with a Care Council, with a professional Social Work qualification. You will bring sound experience of working with children, young people and families and a real commitment to adoption as a positive outcome. A thorough knowledge of safeguarding and child protection policies and procedures is essential too, combined with a good understanding of relevant legislation. The ability to work well as part of a team and to prioritise your own workload is also important.
