Role Overview
We are looking for an exceptional and experienced professional from the Further Education sector with extensive experience in developing and delivering adult skills provision, including ASF, Tailored Learning, Free Courses for Jobs, and Skills Bootcamps.
This role is a new and exciting opportunity within the Skills & Employment Team.
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Skills & Employment, you will be a key point of contact for the Department for Education and commissioned providers.
You will collaborate with them to ensure the creation of talent pipelines for priority and foundational sectors throughout the region and that skills funding is utilised effectively to achieve outstanding outcomes.
This is a fantastic opportunity to join a Combined Authority that is at the forefront of delivering a growing range of programmes through skills devolution.
What you’ll be doing:
• Leading the Combined Authority’s work across the Skills agenda and will be responsible for shaping and implementing future skills policy through increased devolution
• Leading on the development, commissioning, and delivery of a range of targeted interventions and programs that are focused on increasing skills levels, economic activity, and employment
What we're looking for
We’re looking for someone with:
- Significant knowledge and experience of working within the Further Education sector (FE Colleges/Independent Training Providers/Local Authority ACE) in a management position.
- Experience in developing and implementing policy and have a demonstrable understanding of Ofsted (Skills Education Inspection Framework), the self-assessment process and quality improvement planning.
- Your Sector expertise makes you a credible advocate for adult skills, passionate about driving growth and productivity, as well as tackling inequalities through skills and employment.
- Demonstrable expertise in adult skills funding methodology, as well as monitoring and performance management.
- Experience of budget management
- Excellent communication and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively with diverse groups at all levels.
- An understanding of key local government politics, political structures and culture.

Salary range
