This is your chance to join North Northamptonshire Council’s Housing Management Service as a Sheltered Housing Caretaker at a time of real change and investment. We’re reshaping our service to be more visible, proactive and closer to tenants than ever before – and Caretakers are at the very heart of this transformation.

As a Caretaker, you’ll ensure the sheltered housing schemes communal areas and grounds are well maintained, safe and welcoming for all residents. You’ll work closely with Sheltered Services Officers, Scheme Cleaners, residents and local communities to create places people are proud to live in.

You will be part of a service that is:

  • Visible and connected – focused on visible improvements and has strong links with tenants and communities.
  • Cleaner and safer – more caretakers making a real impact in our sheltered schemes and on estates.
  • Supportive and responsive – tackling issues quickly and preventing problems from escalating.
  • Engaged and accountable – giving tenants a stronger voice in how their schemes are managed.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll be a visible presence in communities, helping create safer, stronger and better-maintained neighbourhoods.

You’ll play a key role in keeping our sheltered schemes, grounds and communal spaces safe, clean and well cared for.

Your work will include:

  • Carrying out regular inspections of grounds and communal areas.
  • Undertaking routine and prearranged fire testing and keeping accurate records
  • Keeping shared spaces such as stairwells, bin stores and walkways clean, safe and presentable.
  • Spotting issues early and reporting repairs, hazards and health & safety concerns quickly.
  • Acting as a visible and approachable presence to help deter anti-social behaviour.
  • Working alongside Sheltered Service Officers to tackle issues such as, fire risks, fly-tipping or vandalism.
