About the role:

We are looking for a dynamic and experienced Senior Building Surveyor to lead from the front in delivering a high-performing, resident-focused repairs service within the London Borough of Waltham Forest’s Housing Directorate.

This is a key leadership role where you will manage and support a team of surveyors, providing expert technical guidance on complex cases, and deputising for the Head of Repairs Partnering when required. You’ll play an active part in mentoring and developing junior staff, helping to build a skilled, motivated, and solution-focused team.

You will be responsible for overseeing the delivery of general building surveying services across our diverse housing portfolio—ensuring that contractors, consultants, and partner agencies consistently deliver high-quality works that meet our standards for compliance, specification, timelines, and cost.

Key elements of the role include:

Maintaining accurate digital records and producing detailed reports based on regular site visits.

Ensuring our asset management database is consistently updated to reflect the latest repair activities and case progress.

Monitoring and managing repair workflows to support the achievement of our 28-day Tenant Satisfaction Measure, helping our contractors deliver timely and effective repairs that put residents first.

This role is vital in our commitment to delivering an exceptionally responsive, customer-centric repairs service, ensuring our homes are safe, well-maintained, and compliant with all regulatory requirements.

You will work closely with the Building Safety Operations and Building Safety Compliance teams to support our legal and safety obligations and ensure all works align with our building safety strategy.

In addition, you’ll collaborate with the Planned Works team to inform future investment decisions—ensuring that our planned maintenance programme helps to reduce the need for costly, reactive repairs in the long term.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Experience working as a surveyor within a social housing organisation
  • Experience managing staff or contractors effectively to work towards a common goal
  • Good people management skills and able to work constructively with others
  • Experience of administering building contracts
  • Experience of administering partnering contracts
  • Experience of building surveying in residential environment
  • Experience of Stock Condition Surveys
  • Experience of HHSRS assessments
  • Experience of liaising with residents
  • Knowledge of Asbestos Regulations
  • Knowledge of housing legislation and regulations with particular reference to repairs, maintenance
  • Able to work in an inclusive manner with staff and residents
  • Project Management skills
  • Adept at applying Health & Safety, Customer Care and Communications policies appropriately
  • IT literate, particularly with Microsoft Office, Word, Excel.
  • Good Report writing skills.

Qualifications and Requirements:

Relevant Building qualification, NVQ, ONC, Degree or equivalent or vocational qualification in relevant subject or area.

Evidence of Continuous Professional Development.
