An exciting opportunity to join the City of Wolverhampton Public Health Team, where we have two fixed-term Public Health Specialist positions available:
12-month Fixed Term Senior Public Health Specialist
This post will be a 12-month Fixed Term Senior Public Health Specialist role to cover maternity leave. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced, people-focused, highly motivated Senior Public Health Specialist to work in a matrix way across the public health team with a focus on the Children and Young People’s portfolio and also to contribute to Public Health policy and strategy development within The City of Wolverhampton Council.
Under the guidance of the Principal Public Health Specialist, the postholder will design, deliver, monitor and evaluate programmes of work, in partnership with a range of key stakeholders across the city, to promote the health and wellbeing of City residents.
The post holder will be involved in the development and day to day delivery of Public Health initiatives, input into commissioning of services, and will work with key partners and agencies to support and influence their plans. Through a Business Partner approach, the postholder will act as liaison, providing specialist technical expertise and/or training on research and evidence, data analysis and interpretation, policy development, evaluation etc.
The successful candidate will be able to evidence extensive experience in partnership working and influencing, critical appraisal and synthesis of evidence, analysis and interpretation of data to inform decision making, production of presentations for a range of audiences, and project management.
A thorough understanding of the wider determinants of health, and the impact of inequality and exclusion on health and wellbeing is highly desirable.

Two year Fixed Term Senior Public Health Specialist
The post will be a 2 year Fixed Term Senior Public Health Specialist role with a focus on Best Start.
This is an exciting, high impact opportunity for an experienced, people-focused, motivated Senior Public Health Specialist to lead and shape delivery elements of the Best Start agenda within the Public Health Children and Young People’s Public Health portfolio.
The Best Start programme is a priority for the City of Wolverhampton Council, and we are seeking an individual with experience in children’s public health/ early years with a strong focus on tackling inequalities to drive forward this critical work.
Under the guidance of the Principal Public Health Specialist, the postholder will design, deliver, monitor and evaluate programmes of work, in partnership with a range of key stakeholders across the city, to promote the health and wellbeing of children and young people in the city.

NJC Pay Award for 2026 / 2027:
The annual pay increases for 2026/27 for NJC Local Government Employees are currently being negotiated and, once agreed, will be effective from 1 April 2026.
Our working arrangements
All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
