Your role in our journey
Barnsley Council are seeking to recruit a Senior Public Health Officer who will lead on the delivery of public health functions, ensuring collaborative working, as part of Barnsley’s distributed model of public health. This post will focus on key areas of work including food and healthy weight, alcohol and gambling harm reduction and commercial determinants of health.
You will be flexible in your approach and able to communicate complex public health messages to colleagues across the council.
You will work as part of a team to embed and improve public health outcomes for residents living in the Borough and use your communication and interpersonal skills to influence strategic partnerships; building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to develop and deliver multi-agency action plans that tackle health inequalities and target the most vulnerable people in Barnsley.
This role will be a 12-month fixed-term contract maternity cover
What you’ll need
To join us, you will need to be passionate about improving health and wellbeing outcomes for people living and working in Barnsley. You will have an understanding of the wider factors that can impact on health and wellbeing, especially for those most at risk and be a great team worker with excellent communication skills.
Experience of working within complex systems, alongside multiple partnerships and organisations is excepted for this role. The post holder will also need a good understanding the wider determinants of health and the social factors that affect health.

Salary range
- £42,839 - £46,142 per year
