Good Growth is responsible for delivering and implementing the Mayor’s culture, 24 hour city, licensing, environment, transport and economic strategies and for the effective implementation of the London Plan. The Directorate is also responsible for regeneration (where the programme is not housing led), enterprise, growth, capital projects and design work.

About the team

The 24 Hour London and Licensing Team leads on the The Mayor’s ambition for London to be a leading 24-hour global city. That is because a quarter of London’s economic output (£139bn) happens at night, supporting 1.3 million jobs. The night time economy includes industries like media and transport, health and hospitality. It also includes our £21bn nightlife scene which attracts people and businesses from around the world and makes them want to stay in London.

About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Culture, Creative Industries and 24 Hour London Unit.

The aim of this role is to deliver key 24 Hour London projects, bringing in expert knowledge on nightlife and insights on the night time economy. It includes devising and delivering programmes that support the recommendations of the London Nightlife Taskforce and support for the hospitality sector.

It requires partnership working with the nightlife sector, boroughs, police, developers, place-makers, GLA teams, business and community groups, TfL and others.

You’ll be at the heart of a fast-paced team that also includes the Mayor’s new Strategic Licensing function.

This is a unique opportunity to:

• Work with the new independent London Nightlife Taskforce
• Deliver a new Nightlife Fund to support growth, diversity and innovation of London’s nightlife scenes
• Deliver the Mayor’s flagship Summer Streets programme to support the hospitality sector through outdoor dining, later opening and events
• Support the development of London as a 24 hour city
• Work with senior stakeholders across government, industry, and the city
• Make a visible impact on how London works, plays, and grows

The post-holder will have experience of working with nightlife, hospitality and other key 24 hour London stakeholders. They will ideally be familiar with working in, or with government.

What your day will look like

• Leading meetings in your project area and attending team and unit meetings
• Managing a busy inbox and Teams chats
• Writing papers to secure approval for project plans, reports and other activity, from the Mayor’s Office or GLA Directors
• Developing detailed programme delivery plans, evaluations and reports
• Responding to questions from the public, the London Assembly, the Mayor’s Office or other stakeholders
• Having regular contact with nightlife and hospitality stakeholders, keeping abreast of industry issues, and briefing colleagues as required.

Skills, knowledge and experience

To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

• Experience and knowledge of nightlife, night time economy and 24 hour economy policy and stakeholders
• Leading the development and delivery of strategic initiatives and projects
• Developing and maintaining effective strategic relationships with key partners to support Mayoral objective
• Support the delivery of communications and marketing campaign
• Managing grant funding programmes and follow public sector governance requirements
• Procuring and managing consultants
