In this role, you will undertake research and come up with solutions for the most pressing issues facing Londoners. You will provide research, policy briefings, advice and support to Labour Assembly Members in the housing and environment portfolios. Working with Members, you will draft reports to a publication standard on issues of importance to Londoners, ensure Members have the latest policy research and you will play an important role supporting Members in holding the Mayor to account through Mayor’s Question Time.
This role is based at City Hall, in the&nbsp;Royal Docks (Kamal Chunchie Way, London, E16 1ZE).
<h2>What your day will look like</h2>
This is a busy role that is a combination of proactive work to generate new policy solutions to current issues to providing accurate briefings and political advice to Assembly Members. Your day might look something like:
<ul>
<li>Updating Assembly Members on latest developments in the Housing and Environment policy areas.</li>
<li>Meeting with Assembly Members to discuss committee papers, questions to the Mayor or an upcoming issue in the policy area.</li>
<li>Undertaking research by delving into relevant datasets or providing briefings on issues within the policy area.</li>
<li>Meeting with external stakeholders in the housing and environment sectors.</li>
<li>Providing advice and solutions to Assembly Members on procedural or political problems within the policy areas.</li>
</ul>
<h2>Skills, knowledge and experience</h2>
To be considered for the role you must meet the following essential criteria:

<li>Demonstrable research skills, to enable quick and effective grasp of information from a range of sources on a wide range of policy topics, and proven experience of policy briefing in a political/ public sector organisation</li>

We are looking to recruit a highly motivated, enthusiastic and resilient individual to work as a specialist and as part of a team to oversee the delivery of our licensing priorities. This involves dealing with a range of business licences, including taxis, alcohol premises, gambling, animal welfare and scrap metal.
Reporting to the Council’s Environmental Health &amp; Licensing Manager, of the recently insourced service back to the Council, you will manage the delivery and resources of the licensing team.&nbsp; A key priority will be to ensure this work meets the needs and objectives of the Council and are in line with our statutory responsibilities.&nbsp; Working with other Principals within Environmental Health &amp; Licensing, you will ensure that quality services are provided.
Your role will be to ensure that effective and collaborative relationships are built with licence-holders, applicants, councillors, colleagues and external partners, including the police, DVLA, trading standards and fire service to drive up standards. &nbsp;You will also exercise good judgement and provide advice to a range of service users and provide technical support to colleagues. To do this it is essential you have the ability to communicate clearly and effectively and be committed to high standards of customer care. You should be a team player, willing to share what you know with colleagues and work collaboratively to deliver good outcomes. You will also prepare and present reports to Licensing Committee in relation to policy matters and licence hearings.
If you are an experienced enforcement officer, with a proactive, innovative approach that encourages compliance and behavioural change, then we would like to hear from you. It is essential you have knowledge of
current and proposed legislative frameworks, relating to licensing matters, within which the Council operates.

Trading Standards Officer
About the Role: 
As a Trading Standards Officer you will be required to carry out the full range of statutory trading standards enforcement duties, depending on qualifications and competency, in relation to weights and measures, food standards, intellectual property, fair trading law, consumer product safety, credit, feeding stuffs and fertilisers, doorstep crime and underage sales.
You will carry out criminal compliance enforcement activities across the regulatory service functions whilst working within a generic team carrying out inspections, projects, and investigations into complex and serious breaches of trading standards legislation, identify legal contraventions and select, recommend and execute appropriate enforcement activity based on assessed risk.
You will have sole responsibility for undertaking this work and the duties will include presenting solutions to bring a resolution to complex issues.
About the candidate:
