Do you have an interest in governance and supporting the democratic process?We’re looking for someone who is organised, self-motivated, and has a strong eye for detail to join our small and friendly Legal and Governance team as a Senior Member Support Officer.As part of a supportive and collaborative team, you will work closely with officers and elected members across the organisation, helping to uphold high standards of governance and democratic practice.
You will help ensure the smooth running of Council, Executive Board, and Committee meetings – from preparing agendas and publishing reports to clerking meetings and ensuring decisions are followed through.You will also support councillors directly by providing guidance on governance processes, coordinating member training, and helping to maintain the Council’s Constitution.
This is a varied and interesting role that gives you the chance to get involved in many different aspects of local democracy.If you enjoy working with people, have a good eye for detail, and want to be at the heart of how decisions are made at the Council, we’d love to hear from you.
About you
The successful candidate will:
- Be educated to Degree level or equivalent experience
- Hold a qualification in a relevant subject (or substantial experience and professional development)
- Have significant experience in a member support role, which should include arranging and attending meetings and writing reports
- Have experience of working in a political environment, involving direct contact with elected Councillors
- Possess a thorough knowledge of Local Government decision making
- Understand the Standards requirements for Councillors
- Be able to meet strict deadlines and deal with a demanding workload
