Southwark Council works proactively with the media to ensure residents receive clear and accurate information about council services and priorities.

The Communications team, within Strategy and Communities, leads the council’s approach to communications, campaigns, media relations and digital content. The team works across the organisation to ensure that council priorities are communicated clearly, residents can access information about services and initiatives, and communications activity supports meaningful engagement and impact.

We are looking for a Senior Media and Communications Officer to support the delivery of the council’s media and external communications activity.

What You'll Be Doing

In this role you will:

  • Respond to media enquiries and develop media opportunities.
  • Draft press releases and communications materials.
  • Support proactive media engagement around council initiatives.
  • Monitor media coverage and support reporting.
  • Work with campaign and content teams to ensure consistent messaging.

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Experience in media relations or communications.
  • Strong writing and editing skills.
  • Experience working with journalists or media outlets.
  • The ability to work in fast-paced environments.
  • Strong organisational and communication skills.
