Looking to take the next step in your Licensing career?
We are looking for a Senior Licensing Officer to join our fast-paced, supportive Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Driver Licensing Team. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced Licensing professional who is ready to take on a more senior, high-impact role.
The primary focus of this position is the end-to-end processing of Private Hire Operator licence applications, from receipt and validation through to final issue, ensuring all applications fully comply with the requirements of City of Wolverhampton Council. You will play a critical role in maintaining standards, ensuring accuracy, and supporting a robust and compliant licensing service.
Alongside this, you will act as a key point of expertise within the team, offering guidance, sharing technical knowledge, and supporting Licensing Officers in their day-to-day work. While there are no direct line management responsibilities, you will take ownership of processes, help drive consistency, and contribute to the smooth running of the service. You will also support wider Senior Licensing Officer functions, including hearings and operator-related work.
What we’re looking for:
• Strong knowledge of licensing legislation and procedures
• Proven experience in Private Hire and Hackney Carriage Licensing
• Confidence in supporting and guiding colleagues
• A proactive and organised approach to managing busy workloads
• Excellent communication and IT skills
• A keen eye for detail and commitment to accuracy

Our working arrangements
All council roles are allocated to either a fixed, field or flexible work style. Some roles are agile which enable and empower employees to maximise their performance and productivity, whilst maintaining a healthy work life balance. Roles with a fixed workstyle work in a fixed permanent council location. Roles with a field workstyle are usually allocated where employees are required to be out working in the community with a minimum requirement for 'touch down' space at any council location. Roles with a flexible workstyle have a flexible base location to meet the needs of the business and employees can work from a mixture of home or any council office, partner/client, or external location, as required to meet service requirements.
Please refer to the Job Description for further information on the workstyle assigned to the role you are applying for.
