    About Camden

Camden is changing on the inside to make life better for everyone. Our residents and communities are at the heart of everything we do. We’re home to the most important conversations happening today, and we’re making radical social change a reality, so that nobody gets left behind. Here’s where you can help decide on a better future for us all.

Camden Music is a vibrant, inclusive service committed to helping children and young people experience, enjoy, and learn music. We work in partnership with every school in the borough, including primary, secondary, and special schools, to ensure access to high-quality music education for all. Each year, thousands of students take part in our diverse programme, which includes instrumental and vocal tuition, Saturday music academies, and ensembles ranging from steel bands and choirs to rock bands and orchestras.

Our flagship event, the Camden Schools’ Music Festival at the Royal Albert Hall, brings together over 1,800 young musicians to celebrate creativity and achievement. We support access and equity through affordable instrument hire, subsidies, and bursaries, and we collaborate with schools, educators, and partners, including Camden Music Trust, to deliver innovative projects and professional development.

We believe in the power of music to inspire, connect, and transform. #WeMakeMusic

What You’ll Be Doing / How You’ll Be Involved

This is a key leadership role at the heart of Camden Music’s out-of-school programme. You’ll be responsible for shaping a rich and inclusive offer that includes Saturday music centres, ensembles, holiday courses and major events such as the Camden Schools’ Music Festival at the Royal Albert Hall.

Working closely with tutors, schools and partners, you’ll develop new ideas, strengthen systems and grow participation. You’ll lead teaching and learning in group and ensemble settings, support tutor development and champion youth voice and peer leadership.

The role also involves leading on communications and outreach, helping to raise the profile of the service and build strong relationships with families, schools and cultural partners. You’ll manage a Music Centre Manager and a large team of freelance tutors, while contributing to service-wide planning, evaluation and reporting.

This post is exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act and will require an Enhanced DBS. Please note that Camden also offers the DBS update service.

    All About You

We’re looking for an experienced and inspiring music leader with a strong track record of working with young people in group and ensemble settings. You’ll understand the power of music to build confidence, creativity and community, and be passionate about making that accessible to all.

You’ll bring strategic insight and practical experience, with a background in designing and delivering music programmes that support progression and broaden participation. Leading teams, managing events and building partnerships will come naturally to you.

As a clear communicator and collaborative problem-solver, you’ll be able to lead with purpose, adapt to challenges and inspire others. You’ll also be digitally literate, well-organised and reflective, with a strong understanding of safeguarding and a commitment to inclusive practice.

A teaching qualification is welcome but not essential. What matters most is your ability to lead with integrity, connect with others and make things happen.
