Are you an experienced housing professional looking to make a real impact? Join Wyre Council’s Private Sector Housing team and play a key role in improving housing standards across our borough.

As Senior Housing Enforcement Officer, you will lead on the delivery of housing enforcement activity, including implementing changes introduced by the Renters Rights Act 2025 and enforcing the Housing Act 2004. You will work to improve conditions and management standards within the private rented sector, helping to ensure residents live in safe, well-managed homes.

This is a varied and rewarding role where you will investigate housing disrepair complaints, carry out detailed inspections of residential properties, including Houses in Multiple Occupation, and take appropriate enforcement action where required. You will assess properties using the Housing Health and Safety Rating System (HHSRS), determine appropriate courses of action, and contribute to service improvements by developing effective working practices and partnerships.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Enforce housing legislation to improve standards in private sector accommodation.
  • Carry out property inspections and HHSRS assessments across the borough.
  • Investigate housing complaints and undertake detailed surveys.
  • Lead on compliance with fire safety and amenity standards in HMOs.
  • Use formal enforcement action where necessary, including court or tribunal attendance.
  • Support service development in line with new legislative requirements.

Skills and Experience:

  • A recognised qualification in housing, building or surveying-related discipline.
  • Extensive knowledge of housing legislation and enforcement practice.
  • Significant experience of housing enforcement and HHSRS assessments.
  • Experience inspecting HMOs and applying fire safety guidance.
  • Full UK driving licence and ability to travel across the borough.
  • You will be required to undertake an Enhanced DBS check as part of this role.

What’s in it for you?

  • Flexi time and the option to work remotely part of the week as agreed with your line manager.
  • Generous annual leave allowance. A minimum of 24 days (pro rata) in addition to all bank holidays, rising to 26 days after four years and 29 days after five years local government service.
  • Future development – face to face and virtual courses in line with your developmental goals.
  • Employee wellbeing support.
  • Free parking on site.
  • A local government pension scheme, with generous employer contribution.
  • The opportunity to work for the local community and make a difference.
