
Senior Governance Lawyer

Hours of work: 36 hours per week
Location: Town Hall 128-142 High Road Ilford Essex IG1 1DD
An excellent opportunity has arisen within the London Borough of Redbridge for a highly experienced, Senior Governance Lawyer to join the Council to provide a comprehensive and professional legal service, working closely with other Council departmental clients and specialist departments.
You will be expected to work on complex, governance issues that span constitutional and legislative areas of law.
Responsibilities -
- Tackle complex legal challenges and provide expert advice to a wide range of stakeholders, including council officers, Cabinet Members, committees and elected members
- Deliver strategic insights on governance issues, constitutional matters and legislative impacts on council services
- Support the Monitoring Officer and Deputy Monitoring Officer in fulfilling statutory responsibilities, ensuring decision-making reflects the highest principles of good governance
- Manage complex issues arising from freedom of information requests, subject access requests and regulatory complaints
To be successful in this role you will need to:
- Be a qualified lawyer with relevant litigation experience and a solid understanding of, or exposure to public sector work.
- Have excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically.
- Have experience supporting statutory functions for Monitoring Officers.
- Meet and monitor performance targets.
- Confidently manage risk using sound judgment and critical analysis.
- Have a strong knowledge of local government law allowing you to contribute effectively to the councils goals.

Salary range
