The Resident Services Team is responsible for assisting tenants to sustain their tenancies and encourage and facilitate their independence, quality of life, safeguarding and health and well-being on a wide range of issues including housing, welfare rights, personal finance, hoarding, tenancy management, mediation, life skills and the promotion of personal independence. To provide a high quality housing management compliance service which deals with fire risk assessments, clutter, unauthorised items left in communal areas and storage areas (including utility and other in-take cupboards), within Havering Council’s social housing stock. To be an advocate and champion for the borough. Support people to sustain their homes and quality of life.&nbsp; Provide advice and support on a wide range of issues including, hoarding, storage areas within the stock, and mobility scooters storage. To act as the principle point of contact for the service so that the environment and condition that residents experience on estates is high quality and well maintained. Develop strong links with other council departments to provide solutions such as; access, eliminating fire risks, dealing with hoarding, and supporting vulnerability residents to enable the Council to maintain properties in good order and to protect residents. An excellent opportunity has arisen within the London Borough of Redbridge for an experienced, skilled and dynamic Senior Homelessness/Housing Needs Lawyer to provide a comprehensive and professional legal service on a 2-year fixed term basis.
You will report to the Principal Lawyer Litigation within the Legal Department and meet regularly with the Head of Housing Needs but, you will support and assist the Housing Department with increased challenges to decisions made by the Housing Officers in Housing Needs Service.&nbsp; This lawyer will in addition train the team to enable them to confidently address queries and respond to potential challenges.
You will provide the Council with expert advice and guidance on aspects of civil litigation related work and have conduct of civil cases in Tribunals, the County Court, High Court and Magistrates Court especially within the area of Housing including good knowledge of the Renters Rights Bill.&nbsp;
Responsibilities -

<li>Provide expertise, knowledge and advice on all matters relating to litigation, advising on evidence and procedure and the conduct of any trials.</li>
<li>Conduct a full range of work types in this area of work to include housing law and debt recovery.</li>
<li>Utilising skills and experience gained within a similar position, you will report to the Principal Lawyer (Litigation) and will have your own complex and varied caseload.</li>

To be successful in this role you will need to:

<li>Hold a Solicitor, Barrister, FILEX or similar qualification</li>
<li>Have experience in civil law and procedure, preferably in a local government context</li>
<li>Excellent knowledge of the law and practice in this area of law</li>
