Senior Estates Surveyor

Grade 3 / Salary: £41,771 - £48,226 per annum + benefit allowance (£2,278)

Permanent: 37 hours per week

Location: Muriel Matters House, Hastings

Hastings Borough Council is looking for an experienced and commercially minded Senior Estates Surveyor to play a key role in managing and enhancing our diverse property portfolio.

This is an opportunity to take a leading role in managing a diverse property portfolio while helping to deliver the Council's corporate, financial and regeneration objectives. Working within the Property and Commercial Assets team, you will provide expert professional advice and lead on a broad range of estate management and asset management activities.

About the role

As Senior Estates Surveyor, you will take a leading role in the management of the Council's non-operational land and property assets, delivering professional valuation, estate management and asset management services. You will be responsible for a varied portfolio and will lead on a wide range of property matters including:

  • Commercial estate management and landlord and tenant matters.
  • Rent reviews, lease renewals and service charge management.
  • Acquisitions, disposals, lease restructures, licences and easements.
  • Asset valuations and financial reporting.
  • Asset management planning and income generation opportunities.
  • Strategic property advice to senior officers, Members and stakeholders.
  • Supporting regeneration and investment objectives across the borough.
  • Line management of the Estates Surveyor and professional support and guidance to other members of the team.

You will also have the opportunity to contribute to high-profile projects that help shape the future of Hastings and maximise the value of the Council's property assets.

About you

We are looking for a Chartered Surveyor (MRICS or FRICS) with substantial post-qualification experience in estates management and commercial property. You will bring:

  • Strong experience managing commercial property portfolios.
  • A proven track record of leading complex property transactions.
  • Excellent knowledge of landlord and tenant legislation and valuation principles.
  • The ability to provide clear, pragmatic advice on complex property matters.
  • Strong negotiation, influencing and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience supervising or supporting professional staff.
  • The ability to balance commercial awareness with public sector objectives.

Experience within local government or the wider public sector would be advantageous but is not essential.
