Are you an experienced Environmental Health professional looking to take the next step in your career? This is a fantastic opportunity within Tunbridge Wells Borough Council's Environmental Protection team where you will lead on complex, high-profile cases that make a real difference to public health and the environment.


About the Role

This role is ideal for someone with several years of experience in Environmental Health who is looking to develop a specialism and take on more responsibility. As the lead officer, you will:

  • Investigate and resolve complex nuisance complaints under the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and other legislation.
  • Lead on issues including: Waste accumulations, bonfires, pest infestations, noise, odour, light, and drainage nuisances, Filthy and verminous premises and contaminated land
  • Act as technical lead for contaminated land and the Private Water Supply regime.
  • Respond to planning and licensing consultations
  • Undertake inspections
  • Represent the council in court and at licensing committees.
  • Supervise and support junior officers and trainees, deputising for the team leader when required.
  • Participate in out-of-hours enforcement and emergency planning operations.

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree (BSc or MSc) in Environmental Health
  • Extensive experience in environmental protection
  • Certificate of Registration with the Environmental Health Officers Registration Board (EHORB)
  • Proven ability to represent the council in legal and committee settings.
  • Membership of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (MCIEH or MCIEH CEnvH), or commitment to obtain

Special Requirements:

  • Full valid driving licence and access to a vehicle
  • Willingness to work outside normal office hours
  • Physically capable of inspecting a range of premises
