    About Camden

Camden is building somewhere everyone can thrive. We’re making our borough the best place to live, work, study and visit — and we’re home to the most important conversations happening today. We’re turning radical social change into reality so that nobody is left behind.

We’re now looking for a talented Senior Design Engineer to help shape a safer, healthier and more inclusive borough through high‑quality highway, traffic, active travel and public realm design.

    About the role
As a Senior Design Engineer, you’ll lead the design and delivery of a wide range of schemes — from small-scale improvements to major junction upgrades, cycle corridors and transformative public realm projects.

    What you’ll do

    • Lead feasibility, concept and detailed designs for complex highways, traffic and public realm schemes.

    • Produce construction drawings, MCHW documentation, BoQs, cost estimates and CDM information.

    • Review, audit and challenge designs to ensure safety, accessibility, sustainability and value for money.

    • Work closely with Implementation and Maintenance teams to ensure schemes are deliverable.

    • Provide expert advice to councillors, committees, senior officers and external partners.

    • Manage consultants and coordinate work with TfL, emergency services, developers and communities.

    • Mentor junior staff and contribute to service-wide improvements and innovation.

    About You
    • Engineering degree OR Chartered/ Incorporated status (or equivalent experience).

    • Strong experience delivering complex urban street designs.

    • Knowledge of relevant design standards, legislation and CDM Regulations.

    • Skilled in AutoCAD and applying robust quality control.

    • Experience managing consultants, budgets and procurement.

    • Confident communicator able to present complex issues clearly.

    • Experience with consultation and stakeholder engagement.
