The Role
In this role, you will provide support to the Community Meals Team Manager in delivering quality and compliant services
- To be the first point of contact for Community Meals Delivery Officers. You must be able to communicate effectively and coordinate the operational activities
- To assist in answering queries from colleagues and service users in support of efficient service delivery
- Induction, training, and development of operational teams
- To plan routes and resources required for operational activities and ensure adequate resources are available and alerting managers to delivery risk
- To undertake daily operational activities including allocating of drivers within a weekly rota, where council vehicles are used support with compliance checks and vehicle defect reporting, responding to service complaints, operational routing/ re-routing, resource planning, communication, health and safety concerns, IT issues
- To give driver resilience where this meets the needs of the service and no other cover is available, with the agreement of the Community Meals Team Manager.
- To undertake Senior Community Meals Deliver Officer resilience where this meets the needs of the service, and no other cover is available, with the agreement of the Community Meals Team Manager.
- To ensure service risk assessments are reviewed proactively.
- To effectively deliver front line services to clients in accordance with a journey plan, timetable and/or a delivery manifest, in a timely manner and with a customer focused approach.
- To ensure welfare checks are carried out at each engagement as agreed by protocols and instructions, reporting any incidents and communicating any variances in accordance with council policy.
- Facilitate daily administrative processes including annual leave cover, maintaining equipment and systems required for the delivery of the service i.e. PPE, uniform, round sheet issues and return, submission of welfare check forms, managing confidential waste, handling cheques, complaint submissions, fleet checks.
- To use the ICT equipment/systems provided to allow quality monitoring to be undertaken of the services provided
- To maintain a current, valid driving licence (minimum of a Category B) and submit this routinely for review.

This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
Valid driving licence.
This position is currently based at our Castlewood offices in Clevedon & at our @worle, Weston-Super-Mare sites. Please be advised that the Castlewood office will be closed by 2025. Consultation is currently underway to determine the new location for colleagues based in Castlewood. This will be at Weston-super-Mare or within North Somerset.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- Fixed Worker
- 4+ days in the office
- Spends most or all of their time in the office, due to nature of the work but can be for reasons such as unsuitable home working conditions or a desire for separation of home and work life.
- The office remains a shared space with cultural encouragement for clear desk policies.
About You
We are looking for a committed, caring, and compassionate individual to join a front facing and customer focused service. As a Driver Lead, you will be confident working independently but also an active team player. Leading by example, a clear and strong communicator that offers support to the team in undertaking daily duties together with experience and understanding of supporting vulnerable people. We are keen to invite interest that can demonstrate transferable skills within your career to date although full training and continuous professional development is offered.
Under the direction of the Operations Lead, to deliver high quality customer focused services that supports the work of the ITU and its transformation process. Currently this includes front line and statutory services such as Home to School Transport and Community Meals.
You will be required to give clear instruction to the team with the planning and delivery of our operational activities, together with working within existing procedures and routines with limited supervision.
Successful applicants will be fully supported with training and shadowing opportunities as part of an induction and a be part of a dedicated staff team.
A flexible working approach will be required, across both Clevedon and Weston-Super-Mare sites. Our services operate 7 days per week. Shift will operate on a Thursday to Monday schedule, 5 hours per day.
This position is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. A valid driving licence.

Salary range
- £25,584 - £27,269 per year
