Job description

Are you passionate about making a difference in the lives of young people?

Do you have experience working with vulnerable children and young people and want to take the next step in your career? We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Senior Care Officer to join our team in a solo children's home in Skirlaugh.

This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in supporting a young person with complex needs within a highly individualised, trauma-informed environment. As a Senior Care Officer, you will help provide stability, consistency, and therapeutic support, enabling the young person to feel safe, valued, and empowered to achieve positive outcomes.

About the Role

Our home provides a solo placement for one young person with complex needs. The service is designed to offer high levels of individualised support, helping the young person maintain their identity, develop positive relationships, and remain connected to their community wherever possible.

You will work as part of a committed and supportive team, alongside the Registered Manager, fellow Senior Care Officers, and Care Officers, to deliver high-quality care tailored to the young person's individual needs, aspirations, and care plan.

The role requires resilience, flexibility, emotional intelligence, and a commitment to building trusting relationships. Every day presents opportunities to make a genuine difference in a young person's life.

Key Responsibilities

  • Leading and planning shifts.
  • Managing and responding to risks effectively.
  • Supervising, mentoring, and supporting staff members.
  • Working collaboratively with education providers, health professionals, social workers, and other agencies.
  • Making day-to-day decisions in line with the young person's care plan and identified needs.
  • Promoting positive routines, independence, and personal development.
  • Building and maintaining meaningful, trusting relationships with the young person.
  • Supporting the delivery of trauma-informed and therapeutic care.

Our children and young people have often experienced significant trauma and require caregivers who are caring, approachable, respectful, determined, adaptable, non-judgemental, and committed to helping them succeed.

Ideal Candidate

  • Experience working with vulnerable children and young people.
  • QCF Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent).
  • A genuine desire to provide consistent, child-centred support.
  • Previous supervisory experience is desirable but not essential.
  • An understanding of trauma-informed practice and relationship-based care.
  • Ability to work a rota pattern including weekdays, evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in duties.
  • A full UK driving licence is desirable.

What We Offer

  • Comprehensive induction programme.
  • Regular supervision and management support.
  • Ongoing training and professional development opportunities.
  • Physical intervention training.
  • Enhanced pay for evening and weekend working, equivalent to approximately £4,500 per year.
  • Sleep-in payments equivalent to approximately £2,000 per year.
  • Double time and time off in lieu for Bank Holidays.
  • Excellent Local Government Pension Scheme with a 19.3% employer contribution.
  • The opportunity to make a lasting difference in a young person's life.
  • There is also a plussage payment of 7.69% of their salary for enhancements when on annual leave.
