The Role
We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Senior Anti-Social Behaviour Officer to join our Safer Communities Service. The anti-social behaviour team are responsible for pro-actively generating appropriate work action plans to tackle problem issues within our communities. The role would be expected to lead on complex cases and offer support/training to colleagues and/or partnership officers with specific and/or contentious issues that arise when dealing within Community Safety related work areas.
In this role, you will be required to undertake a number of diverse specialist or technical activities within Community Safety framework using skills that would have be gained through professional qualifications and/or practical experience.
Key Responsibilities:
- To manage a caseload of high-risk victims, offender and locations in relation to Anti-Social Behaviour and take appropriate action using enforcement tools and powers and/or other remedial interventions to tackle anti-social behaviour issues highlighted to the council and other partner organisations as appropriate.
- To provide information and advice to colleagues and partnership officers to ensure the appropriate action is taken to tackle issues and/or ensure legal action can be taken.
- To gather evidence and prepare statements and accompanying documents in order to proceed with legal action in accordance with legislation (including Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984) and council policy and procedures.
- Communicate effectively with colleagues and officers in partner agencies both verbally and in writing, through the appropriate use of case notes and other record keeping within information sharing protocols and record keeping policies. Prepare briefing papers and collate prosecution files as appropriate and present as necessary.
This position is exempt under the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions) Order 1975 and is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check. The postholder will also be required to complete Police Vetting checks to NPPV2 in order to fulfil responsibilities required.
Valid driving licence and own transport, or be able to provide alternative, suitable method of travel is preferred for this role.
This position is based at the Town Hall, Weston super Mare, with flexibility to work elsewhere or from home for part of the week.
Work Style
At North Somerset Council, we offer a hybrid working environment based on four distinct work styles. Depending on the role and personal circumstances, you will fall into one of these categories. However, please note that during the induction period, it may be necessary to spend more time in the office to support your learning and development. We are flexible and open to discussions about your preferred working style, and if you wish to be in the office more frequently, this can be negotiated.
This role falls into the category of Flexible Worker which means you can expect to work in the following way:
- 2-3 days in the office
- Works both from home and the office, depending on the task at hand.
- Training is provided to help balance work-life and manage time effectively, with an emphasis on communication for team touchpoints and planning in-office days for collaboration.
About You
We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working in Anti-Social Behaviour and who possesses the following skills and experience:
Essential Criteria:
- Vocational qualification or experience to level 4 relevant to the service area e.g. NVQ or BTEC in Community Safety/ASB
- Extensive practical experience of working within the service area, giving rise to a variety of technical skills and sound understanding of the standards, legal responsibilities, work practices and processes relevant to the role.
- Significant work experience of complex case co-ordination gained from considerable work experience in a multi-agency setting within a similar field (e.g. Police, Local Authorities, Housing Associations)
- A demonstrable knowledge and understanding of the role and responsibilities of organisations and communities in addressing anti-social behaviour and other community safety issues
- Experience of partnership working and engagement with communities
- Experience of developing and delivering multi-agency practical solutions to a range of anti-social behaviour and community safety issues.
- Ability to analyse data and use it to make decisions about service improvement
- Ability to prepare and present evidence clearly and confidently, this may include presentation of reports to colleagues, councillors, partnership officers and the community.
- Ability to manage/organise own work to meet agreed deadlines
- Ability to present evidence clearly and confidently, this may include presentation of reports to colleagues, councillors, partnership officers and the community.
- Ability to use a range of computer software including databases and operate mobile computer equipment
- Ability to work without close supervision and recognise professional boundaries to seek advice when appropriate.

Salary range
