Are you organised, analytical and confident working with data, systems and a wide range of people?

We are looking for a proactive Senior Administration Officer to join our supportive Waste & Street Scene team. This is a varied role in which you will help to keep important frontline services running effectively, provide high-quality support to colleagues and contribute to improvements that benefit our customers.

You will oversee key administrative, financial and performance systems, including processing purchase orders and invoices, preparing service performance updates and supporting the budget-setting process. You will also lead the administration of the Council’s garden waste subscription service and help ensure that team systems, databases and web pages are accurate and up to date.

Working closely with the Waste and Street Scene Team Leader, contractors and internal teams, you will monitor performance, investigate service enquiries and complaints, and help identify opportunities to improve systems and services. You will also provide support and training to the Administration Assistant.

What you’ll bring

We are looking for someone who has:

  • Significant experience within the waste, street cleansing or disposal industry
  • Experience of using waste management systems to update, review and extract data
  • Experience of producing reports and monitoring performance indicators
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • The ability to prioritise effectively, work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Experience of working with contractors and internal and external stakeholders
  • A collaborative approach, good judgement and strong problem-solving skills
  • Confidence in using Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint

You will also need good attention to detail, strong report-writing and analytical skills, and the confidence to resolve service issues while knowing when to raise concerns with your manager.

What we offer

You will join a collaborative and supportive team where there is plenty of variety and the opportunity to become involved in different projects. Corporate, e-learning and on-the-job training will be provided.

The role also offers:

  • Competitive salary: £31,612, increasing to £32,444 after one year, and £33,276 after two years subject to managerial approval.
  • Generous leave: 22 days’ annual leave, increasing to 27 days after five years’ continuous Local Government service, plus bank holidays and three additional days in December.
  • Pension: Membership of the Local Government Pension Scheme, with an employer contribution 16.8%.
  • Hybrid working: Available following successful completion of your probation period and subject to service needs.
  • Free staff parking
  • Development: Access to corporate training, online and in-person learning, webinars and continued professional development.
  • Employee benefits: Access to the HAPI benefits hub and an Employee Assistance Programme through Health Assured.

If you are a calm, resilient and organised professional who enjoys working with people, improving processes and making sense of detailed information, we would be pleased to hear from you.

This role is subject to a basic DBS check.
