Salary: Salary starting from £37,280 to £46,142 per annum (depending on qualifications and experience)

Grade: Grade 6/7

Hours: 37 hours per week

Place of Work: Worthing Town Hall/hybrid working – office-based with some home working

We are seeking a Senior Accountant (Commercial and Projects) to support the Principal Accountant (Capital and Assets) in producing, maintaining, updating, monitoring and closing of all records relating to capital budgets, capital expenditure, capital income, capital assets and capital reserves.

In this role, you will also be the financial lead in supporting the organisation's commercial strategy, providing advice and information in relation to work driven by the commercial strategy.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the coordination of the preparation of capital accounting, including budgeting, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Support and advise project and commercial teams on financial viability and compliance.
  • Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting related to capital and asset management.
  • Assist in providing financial aspects of audits, risk assessments, and long-term asset planning.
  • To provide commercial acumen and a creative approach to problems, acting in an advisory capacity to financial conversations linked to the councils’ operations including robust cost modelling and financial advice.

We are looking for an accountant with some knowledge of local government finance or similar complex environments:

  • Capital accounting frameworks and asset management.
  • Excellent technical skills with a strategic mindset.
  • Experience of working across teams, especially within multi-disciplinary and project-based settings.
