We are recruiting a 2 School Based Counsellors at Caerphilly County Borough Council.

Working hours: 37 hours
Contract Type: X1 – Full Time, Permanent, Term Time Only (39 Weeks)

Contract Type: X1 – Full Time, Term Time Only, Fixed Term until 31st August 2026

Team: Educational Psychology Service

This position offers an excellent opportunity to become part of our team and provide support across the organization.

We pay an attractive salary of £39,152 - £41,771 and offer access to training and development opportunities.

As a Counsellor you will work in Comprehensive Schools, Feeder Primary Schools and in community settings. You will join a friendly and committed team of Educational Psychologists and School Based Counsellors and have access to regular clinical supervision, professional supervision, and continuing professional development opportunities.

The successful candidate will contribute to the ongoing development of the Counselling Service in Caerphilly. This will include individual work (face to face counselling, telephone and online counselling during school hours), group work, support to schools to build capacity related to wellbeing and monitoring and evaluation of the impact of the Service.

You must have a good understanding of the Safeguarding, Social Inclusion and Wellbeing agendas. Experience of working with schools and of providing counselling support to younger age primary children (school years 4-6) would be desirable.

You will hold a minimum of a professional diploma in Counselling Level 4, have evidenced post qualification supervised practice and be accredited /registered with the BACP/UKCP or equivalent.

For the role, we ask that you have:

  • A knowledge of a range of applied counseling approaches and experience in using them.
  • Effective interpersonal skills such as tact, empathy, flexibility, negotiation and conflict management skills.
  • A thorough knowledge of Safeguarding and Child Protection.
  • A Full UK Category B (Cars) driving licence and the use of a motor vehicle insured for business / work purposes to travel throughout the borough to visit school and for meeting.
