Rough Sleeping and Single Homelessness Project Officer

Rough sleeping and homelessness is a big challenge for Oxford City Council. We are looking for someone with drive and passion to help us make a difference in this area. We are looking for someone with experience of managing projects and commissioning services to join the Housing Needs Team and play a lead role in delivering the Council’s Housing, Homelessness and Rough Sleeping Strategy that aims to support some of the most vulnerable people in our City.

Our Rough Sleeping and Single Homelessness Team carry out a commissioning function within the Council, with many services commissioned on a countywide basis. The wider Housing Needs service fulfils the Council’s statutory homelessness function which includes providing assistance as per the Homelessness Reduction Act 2018. This role will assist the team and wider Housing Needs service in working closely with external providers and internal teams to ensure that there are necessary services and initiatives in place to prevent single adults from becoming homeless and/or rough sleeping. This will include the co-ordination of different projects and teams to ensure single adult persons at risk of homelessness and those experiencing rough sleeping can access and receive the appropriate housing and support. Working in close partnership with internal and external stakeholders is key to this role, and we are looking for someone who is effective at forming productive working relationships across a multitude of organisations and delivering projects and initiatives in partnerships and in line with wider strategic aims.

You must be able to manage a complex workload, have previous experience of working within housing, homelessness or a related field, and be committed to help find and develop the very best solutions and services for some of the City’s most vulnerable people. You will also need strong organisational skills and be able to work to tight deadlines, in a busy environment with many urgent and competing demands. You will have a good understanding of the housing challenges in Oxford and in particular those facing single people. You will have good experience of delivering excellent customer service in a person-centred way and have a can-do and solution focussed attitude.
