Are you a qualified Environmental Health Officer or Food Safety Officer? Are you looking for your next role? How about the Food & Public Safety Team?
Join our Food & Public Safety Team and help protect one of the UK's most vibrant, diverse and dynamic cities. We are out across the city every day, in various locations such as, businesses which prepare food, retail units, festivals and events, licensed premises, sports grounds and various types of workplaces (offices, warehouses etc).
We ensure standards are met and risks are properly managed.
As an experienced professional, you will undertake risk-based food hygiene and food standards inspections across restaurants, takeaways, manufacturers, retailers, wholesalers, mobile food businesses and temporary premises. You will assess food safety management systems, including SFBB and HACCP, undertake sampling and investigate food complaints, food poisoning notifications, food incidents and emerging risks.
You will have demonstrable food safety competency and experience of undertaking inspections, assessing food safety management systems, conducting investigations and applying enforcement legislation. You will have sound knowledge of UK food safety legislation, including the Food Safety Act 1990, Food Hygiene Regulations and associated legislation, together with the ability to interpret legislation and technical guidance and apply it confidently and proportionately.
We also investigate complaints, undertake accident investigations, investigate cases of infectious disease, carry out inspections, gather evidence and, where necessary, use our statutory powers to protect the public.
It is visible work. It is practical. And it makes a tangible difference.
Together we protect health, improve working conditions, and support responsible businesses to thrive. The work ranges from advisory visits and compliance checks through to formal enforcement action and preparing and attending cases for court or hearings.
The ability to prepare clear reports and statements for potential legal proceedings is essential, and you may be required to represent the Service and the Council at formal hearings.
