About Us
East Staffordshire Borough Council is seeking a skilled and customer-focused Registered Building Inspector to join our Building Control team. This is an opportunity to apply your professional expertise to support safe, compliant and sustainable development across the borough.
Working within your validated and registered competence at Class 2A to 2F, you will manage a varied portfolio of building control projects, examine plans, carry out site inspections, provide clear professional advice and take appropriate action to secure compliance with Building Regulations, the Building Act 1984 and related legislation
About the role
You will work within your validated competence at Class 2A to 2F, managing a varied caseload of residential and commercial projects. Duties will include examining plans, carrying out site inspections, maintaining accurate records, providing clear professional advice and taking proportionate action to secure compliance.
You will also support dangerous structures call-outs, out-of-hours arrangements, land drainage matters, street naming and numbering, and work closely with colleagues, elected members, contractors, applicants and the public.
What we are looking for
We are looking for a hard-working, ambitious and enthusiastic surveyor with building control experience, sound knowledge of construction, Building Regulations and the Building Act 1984, and the ability to manage work effectively to deadlines.
You should hold a degree-level qualification in building construction, surveying or a related discipline and be qualified to a minimum competency level of BSCF Level 2A. Competence across Level 2A to 2F is preferred, and RICS or CABE membership would be desirable.
You will need strong communication, customer service, organisational and IT skills, accurate record keeping, sound professional judgement and the ability to access construction site environments when required.
Additional requirements
You must hold a full driving licence, have access to a vehicle for the Car Necessity Scheme, live within two hours of East Staffordshire Borough, and be able to participate in the 24-hour standby and call-out rota.
