Overall Job Purpose:

Looking for a career where your work makes a real difference? As a Recovery Officer, you’ll help fund essential local services by supporting residents and recovering unpaid council tax, business rates, BID Levy and Housing Benefit Overpayments. This is your chance to combine problem-solving with people skills in a role that truly impacts your community.

What You’ll Do

  • Negotiate fair and sustainable repayment plans with residents.
  • Take enforcement action when necessary, following legislation and policy.
  • Work closely with enforcement agents, courts, and internal teams.
  • Deliver excellent customer service with empathy and professionalism.
  • Provide residents with information on where to obtain free, confidential debt advice from trusted organisations such as Citizens Advice, StepChange, and National Debtline.

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience in debt recovery or local government is desirable (but not essential).
  • Strong communication and negotiation skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities effectively.
  • Ability to multi-task effectively, prioritising work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of council tax legislation is an advantage—training provided.
  • IT literate with great attention to detail.
