Are you a passionate and experienced leader ready to shape and strengthen practice across children’s services? If you have a sharp eye for quality, the confidence to challenge, and a drive to improve outcomes for children and families — this could be your next move.

We’re looking for an experienced Interim Quality Assurance Manager to join our dynamic Practice Hub, where quality, learning, and impact sit at the heart of everything we do. This is a high-impact opportunity to influence practice across the Trust and help ensure consistently strong outcomes for children and young people.
Our Quality Assurance systems are well-established, respected, and continuously evolving. Through our Practice Hub, we deliver a robust programme of:
  • Practice evaluations
  • Trust Leadership Team (TLT) audits
  • Intelligence-led thematic and diagnostic audits
  • Service-level audits
These are strengthened by meaningful feedback from children, families, and partners — giving us a rich, real-time picture of practice and driving continuous improvement.

In this role, you will:
  • Lead and contribute to systematic auditing and quality assurance activity
  • Conduct and moderate practice evaluations and dip sampling
  • Ensure actions from audits are followed through and closed in a timely way
  • Support social workers with targeted casework improvement (including Ofsted readiness)
  • Deliver bespoke evaluations and provide clear, concise reporting
  • Translate complex QA findings into meaningful insights and improvement actions
  • Facilitate learning and improvement activity aligned to our practice model
  • Promote a culture of reflection, accountability, and continuous improvement
You’ll play a key role in ensuring our services remain child-focused, evidence-informed, and consistently improving.

About You:

You’re an experienced and confident leader who understands what great practice looks like — and knows how to get there.

You will bring:

  • Significant experience in children’s social care, including quality assurance and practice improvement
  • Demonstratable experience managing a team of Social Workers
  • A clear vision of ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’ practice, with the ability to challenge and support others to achieve it
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret and communicate QA findings clearly and concisely
  • Confidence to provide and receive constructive professional challenge
  • A collaborative approach, building respectful and effective relationships across services
  • Experience completing audits and translating findings into tangible improvements
  • A commitment to child-centred, trauma-informed, relationship-based practice
  • The ability to embed and drive forward Quality Assurance and Practice Evaluation Frameworks
  • A track record of ensuring learning from audits and reviews is embedded into practice

Most importantly, you will be deeply committed to securing the best outcomes for Birmingham’s children and young people, helping to strengthen practice and make a lasting difference.
