    Public Health Senior Project Officer

Creativity, ambition and a focus on people. That’s what matters at Barnsley Council. Our award-winning council is on an exciting journey of change. It’s all about putting local people at the heart of everything. Listening and doing good for our communities. We’re innovative, efficient and provide value for money services for our residents.

Shape a better future with us

We’d like you to be part of our success and help us take change further. Join us on our journey to a brighter future. By working together, with each other and with our communities, we can take pride in improving lives. Let’s make a better Barnsley for everyone.

    Your role in our journey

As a Public Health Senior Project Officer, your role will make an essential contribution towards our future success as we work to make a real difference to our communities.

We are seeking to recruit two Public Health Senior Project Officers. One post will sit within the Health Improvement Team, supporting a broad programme of work, including suicide prevention and mental health. The other post will sit within the Health Protection and Healthcare Public Health Team, supporting a variety of work programmes, including tobacco control, health protection work and sexual health.

You will support the wider Public Health team by leading and co-ordinating defined elements of public health projects, and supporting the planning, implementation and evaluation of evidence-based interventions. You will also contribute to commissioning activity, and work collaboratively with internal and external partners to deliver joined-up approaches.

    What you’ll need

To join us, you will need to be passionate about tackling health inequalities and improving health and well-being outcomes for people living and working in Barnsley. You will have a good understanding of public health, and the wider factors that can impact on health and wellbeing.

Both posts will involve handling confidential and sensitive data, so experience of handling sensitive and confidential information in accordance with relevant legislation, policies and procedures is essential. The post holder will also need good communication skills, experience of working in the public or community sector, and experience of building relationships with stakeholders and multi-agency partners.

The postholder will be required to work flexibly across the public health teams and work programmes when necessary.

A lot to look forward to

Here at Barnsley, we live and work by four important values: honesty, teamwork, excellent service, and taking pride in what we do. Barnsley Council’s distributed public health model supports our vision to be a Public Health Council. This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a wider team who can really make a difference to the health and wellbeing of children and young people in the Borough.
