You'll get involved in a range of interesting public health projects across Health Improvement, Healthcare Public Health, Health Protection, and our Public Health Nursing Service. This includes work to help residents improve their mental health and wellbeing, live healthier lives, and access the support they need. There may also be opportunities to work with some of our partner organisations across the wider public health system.
Main duties include:
· Supporting the delivery, evaluation, and reporting of programmes that protect and improve the health of Barnsley residents
· Helping to build community capacity for health initiatives and flagging concerns to colleagues
· Presenting health information to different audiences
· Following policies and standards, and helping colleagues meet requirements
· Taking on other duties as needed to support the team
What we're looking for
You'll be keen to learn, passionate about making a difference, and ready to work as part of a hardworking team that puts residents at the heart of everything we do. We welcome people from different backgrounds and experiences.
As part of the apprenticeship, you will be working towards a BSc (Hons) Public Health / Public Health Practitioner Degree Apprenticeship qualification, with one day a week set aside for your academic learning. To be eligible, applicants must not already hold a qualification in public health or a degree in any subject. Anyone currently working towards professional registration, such as UKPHR, is not eligible to apply.

As an apprentice with the Council, you'll be fully supported to develop your skills, experience, and qualifications.
Working arrangements: 37 hours per week. Minimum 3 days per week in the office. Flexible working is available. Location: Westgate Plaza, Westgate, Barnsley, S70 2DR

Salary range
- £28,598 - £31,022 per year
