This is an exciting time to join us, as we continue to develop innovative work programmes and focus on the health of our Island residents.

The Isle of Wight presents a unique public health opportunity. It has a distinct population, geography and set of challenges and strengths. This allows us to develop tailored, place-based approaches that have real impact, particularly in addressing inequalities, supporting communities and improving outcomes across the life course.

We are a supportive, friendly and evolving team, with a strong commitment to learning, professional development and helping our staff grow. The Island and our staff benefit from strong multi-agency partnerships and networks, which you will be part of. You will be joining at a time where there is ample opportunity to shape how we work, influence priorities and develop your career within public health.

    About the role

As a Public Health Analyst, you will analyse, interpret and present complex data from a range of local and national sources to inform policy, strategy and commissioning decisions. You will play a key role in turning data into insight that directly influences services, improves population health and tackles health inequalities.

You will contribute to major public health intelligence products such as needs assessments, health profiles and the Annual Public Health Report, helping to ensure decisions are driven by robust, high-quality evidence.

    You will:

    • Analyse and interpret a wide range of public health datasets to generate actionable insight and intelligence
    • Support and contribute to key reports such as the Joint Strategic Needs Assessment and Annual Public Health Report
    • Contribute to projects addressing health inequalities and key population health priorities
    • Present complex information clearly and effectively to a range of audiences, including non-specialists
    • Work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners to support evidence-based decision making
    • Ensure the quality, accuracy and integrity of data used to inform public health intelligence

    About you

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in improving health and wellbeing through data and evidence, and a commitment to reducing health inequalities. You will be curious, analytical and motivated to make a difference at a population level.

    You will have:

    • A good standard of education including GCSE Maths and English (or equivalent)
    • Strong numerical, analytical and critical thinking skills
    • The ability to communicate complex information clearly and effectively
    • Good IT skills, including experience of Excel and data analysis tools (Power BI, R and/or GIS experience is desirable)
    • A Master’s in Public Health or Public Health Practitioner registration is welcomed but not essential.

    Working with us

We offer a flexible, supportive and developmental working environment, where people are encouraged to learn, innovate and progress.

    You will benefit from:

    • Agile and hybrid working arrangements
    • Opportunities for training, development and career progression
    • Being part of a growing and evolving team with real scope to shape its future
    • A collaborative team ethos with a strong focus on continuous learning
    • 32 days annual leave plus public holidays

    Why join us?

This role offers the chance to be part of an exciting and developing team and work programme. As our Public Health function continues to grow, you will have opportunities to expand your skills, take on new challenges and progress your career in a supportive environment.
