
Project Officer (Tobacco Dependency and Mental Health)
1-year fixed term contract - This opportunity is currently being offered on a fixed term contract basis of 12 months; however, if budgets allow the contract length may be extended and/or become permanent, though this is not guaranteed. We are currently recruiting for a Project Officer (Tobacco Dependency & Mental Health) on a 12-month fixed term contract. You will be required to support the Senior Project Officer to achieve the Governments ambition to double the number of quit attempts made through stop smoking services over the next 3 years and to work in the context of Medway’s ‘Joint Local Health & Wellbeing Strategy’ and the Public Health Outcomes Framework to reduce health inequalities.
Funding will be allocated to this programme annually and subject to external review and sign off. Work in partnership with a range of mental health care settings in Medway including primary care, social care and a range of community providers, to de-normalise smoking within mental health settings, adopting a holistic, person-centred approach towards addressing tobacco dependence amongst both service users and staff. Provide education and Very Brief Advice (VBA) and, where appropriate, Level 2 training in line with up-to-date guidance and recommendations, to health professionals whose influence can reduce smoking prevalence in those with mental illness. The role will involve liaising with service users in a way that promotes the vision and values of the Council.
The successful post holder will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check.
The applicant must be able to travel flexibly across Medway and is responsible for their travel. The role also involves lifting and carrying equipment across sites for appointments and events.

Career Progression Frameworks (CPF) have been introduced for all roles at Medway Council. There will be further opportunity once in post to progress from level A to B, and B to C.

We are seeking a Project officer (Tobacco Dependency & Mental Health) to join the team at level A. This is the entry point of the role, so you will need to be able to demonstrate the relevant knowledge, experience and skills to get you started, but you will be supported to develop in your role through induction, probation and a supportive Performance Appraisal and Career Conversation. All elements of level A listed within the person specification are essential. Through your induction you will be introduced to the Career Progression Framework (CPF), which will help you to identify your areas of strength and any development needs.
