What will you be doing?

Do you want to help plan for and respond to emergencies across Kent? Are you confident working under pressure and making decisions when it matters most? Do you enjoy working with partners to improve resilience and preparedness?

We’re looking for a motivated and organised Project Officer who can quickly settle in and start making a positive impact. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to work that directly supports the safety, resilience and continuity of services for the communities of Kent.

In this role, you will support the delivery of a range of compliance and emergency planning projects. You will work closely with internal colleagues and external partners, helping to co-ordinate planning, develop guidance, support exercises, and contribute to real‑world emergency responses.

The work is varied, fast‑paced and purposeful, offering the chance to develop valuable experience within a professional emergency management environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • As a Project Officer, you will:
  • Support the planning and delivery of time‑limited resilience, compliance and emergency planning projects, including monitoring progress against key milestones and deliverables
  • Assist with the development, review, testing and exercising of emergency plans
  • Help implement systems, procedures and guidance that strengthen organisational and community resilience
  • Provide operational support during business continuity incidents and emergency responses, including secretariat and command‑and‑control support (this may occasionally involve out‑of‑hours work)
  • Support corporate and multi‑agency forums through agenda preparation, minute taking, action tracking and document management
  • Contribute to innovation and continuous improvement through research, horizon scanning and identifying better ways of working
  • Build strong, trusted relationships with colleagues and partners, delivering a professional, customer‑focused and empathetic service
  • Undertake additional administrative and project‑related tasks as required to support the wider service

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who is proactive, organised, and professional, with a genuine interest in resilience, emergency planning and public service.

You will have:

  • A Level 3 qualification or equivalent experience
  • Experience working in a public sector, emergency service or response‑related environment
  • Experience of supporting projects and working in partnership with others
  • Strong written and presentational skills, adaptable to different audiences
  • Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage a varied workload
  • Proven administrative, research and analytical skills
  • The ability to work independently while also contributing effectively to a team

You will also have (or be willing to develop):

  • An understanding of emergency planning and business continuity legislation, guidance and good practice
  • Knowledge of Kent County Council, Kent’s communities, or a strong willingness to learn
