Why Southwark?

Southwark is one of London’s most vibrant and diverse boroughs, home to over 120 languages, a young and multicultural community, and world-famous cultural landmarks. But at our heart, we are a place where local people live, work and build their futures.

We are ambitious for our residents and committed to making Southwark a fairer, greener, and safer borough. Through our Southwark Place Management Programme (PMP) a £2.3m transformation initiative, we’re tackling the issues that matter most to our communities: cleaner streets, greener spaces, better waste management, and a visible reduction in graffiti and fly-tipping.

Joining Southwark now means being part of a council that doesn’t stand still – we innovate, collaborate, and deliver change that residents can see and feel.

What You'll Be Doing

As Project Manager, you’ll play a key role in shaping and delivering the Southwark Place Management Programme. This is an exciting opportunity to lead high-profile projects that improve our town centres, estates, and public spaces.

You will:

  • Manage the development and delivery of projects that reduce graffiti, fly-tipping, and litter, while improving waste infrastructure.

  • Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and with measurable benefits for our communities.

  • Collaborate with directors, heads of service, frontline teams, suppliers, residents and local businesses to drive innovation and impact.

  • Translate business goals into tangible, sustainable deliverables.

  • Lead projects through the full lifecycle – from initiation and business case development to delivery and handover into business-as-usual.

  • Report progress, manage risks and issues, and ensure strong governance and accountability at every stage.

This is a role where you’ll see the difference your work makes from cleaner, greener streets to more effective frontline services.

What We're Looking For

We’re seeking an experienced and motivated Project Manager who thrives on driving change and delivering results. You’ll bring:

  • A track record of delivering complex projects, ideally in a local government or frontline services environment.

  • Strong knowledge of project methodologies such as Agile, PRINCE2 or equivalent experience.

  • Experience of working through the full project lifecycle, including organisational change and service redesign.

  • Excellent stakeholder management skills – able to engage, influence and inspire across communities, services, and senior levels.

  • The ability to simplify complex challenges, find creative solutions, and communicate with clarity and impact.

  • Confidence in managing budgets, risks, and reporting requirements.

We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are particularly keen to encourage applications from Black, Asian, and Minority Ethnic communities as part of our Southwark Stands Together initiative.
