Introduction

Join us as a Project Manager in Lewisham's new Transformation Delivery Unit. Lewisham Council is on an ambitious journey. Centred around our Transforming Lewisham vision - Run Well, Serve Well - by 2030, we aim to be a high-performing, resident-focused organisation, equipped to deliver our corporate priorities and the borough’s long-term vision.

This role sits within the Corporate Transformation Delivery Unit, the driving force behind Lewisham’s highest priority change programmes. You will lead the delivery of complex, high-impact projects that drive real change across the council. You will be a hands-on problem solver, working closely with services to design and implement practical solutions that improve outcomes for residents, staff and the Council. Our transformation portfolio spans the entire organisation, with a current focus on:

  • Enhancing how residents access and experience the Council’s services
  • Transforming our corporate ways of working to boost efficiency and performance
  • Building a supported, skilled workforce ready to deliver on our ambitions

What’s the role?

We are hiring 2x fixed-term (12-18-month) posts, and 1x permanent post.

As a Project Manager, you will:

  • Oversee the delivery and coordination of transformation projects from initiation to completion, driving innovation and measurable benefits.
  • Work closely with services across the council to co-design solutions, troubleshoot delivery challenges, and embed new ways of working.
  • Manage project governance, developing detailed project plans and ensuring these are followed, proactively managing project risks and issues, escalating where necessary and driving resolution.
  • Matrix manage project delivery teams of various sizes, ensuring timelines, costs, and quality standards are met.
  • Contribute to the development and use of practical tools, templates, and resources to support project delivery.

What’s in it for you?

Excellent training and development opportunities, plus a range of benefits including:

  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Local Government Pension scheme
  • Flexible working and family friendly policies
  • Season ticket and bicycle loans
  • A range of staff discounts including local subsidised gym memberships

What we’re looking for

  • Strong organisational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and work to tight deadlines.
  • Strong understanding of project management principles and techniques such as Agile and Prince2.
  • Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to build relationships across a range of partners and engage effectively with senior leaders and operational teams.
  • A can-do attitude with the ability to champion and drive day-to-day project delivery.
