Why Southwark?

Southwark is a bold, ambitious council with a strong track record of delivering for its residents. As we work towards our 2030 vision, we’re putting people at the heart of everything we do – and that includes our staff. We’re proud to be powered by our people, and we’re looking for someone who shares our passion for fairness, prevention, and housing justice.

What You'll Be Doing

The private rented sector in Southwark is growing rapidly, and with it, the need for robust support and protection for tenants and landlords. This role is central to our mission to raise standards, prevent homelessness, and ensure that everyone in Southwark has access to safe, secure housing.

You’ll lead a high-performing team delivering frontline homelessness prevention services, working closely with internal colleagues and external partners to deliver real impact. You’ll also play a key role in preparing for the implementation of the Renters’ Rights Bill, the most significant reform to the private rented sector in over 30 years.

  • Leading a skilled team to deliver innovative, high-quality homelessness prevention services.
  • Supporting tenants at risk of illegal eviction or harassment with timely, effective interventions.
  • Driving forward our response to the Renters’ Rights Bill – including the abolition of Section 21, stronger rent protections, and the extension of the Decent Homes Standard to the private sector.
  • Collaborating across the council and with external agencies to ensure joined-up, person-centred support.
  • Championing the values of Southwark 2030: reducing inequality, empowering people, and investing in prevention.

What We're Looking For

You’re a passionate advocate for housing justice with a deep understanding of landlord-tenant law and homelessness legislation. You bring:

  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Experience in delivering homelessness prevention services under the Homelessness Reduction Act 2017.
  • Strategic insight into housing reform and the ability to translate policy into practice.
  • A commitment to Southwark’s values and a belief in the power of prevention to change lives.

Be part of delivering Southwark 2030 where everyone has a decent home and the support they need to thrive.
