Exciting things are happening within the Digital Services Team at Derbyshire County Council and we’re looking for a Principal SolutionsArchitect to join our Strategy and Architecture team.

A major review of our organisation and strategies has been completed and we have invested in new tools to support a comprehensive and innovative Digital Services transformation programme, to support the delivery of key services to the citizens and communities of Derbyshire.

This role will be pivotal in helping us deliver our transformation programme, as a key post within the Digital Services, Strategy and Architecture function.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who has significant experience of managing Solution Architecture practice at, managing and delivering change and who really wants to make a difference.

Key Responsibilities of this role are:

  • Manage the Solutions Architecture Service area and ensure the availability of IT systems, solutions and data that meet the business requirements across the Council
  • Be responsible for managing and mentoring a small team of Solutions Architects
  • Provide professional expertise and knowledge within the Enterprise Architecture Service Area enabling Digital Services to provide pro-active and agile services
  • Take active part in the Architecture Governance process to ensure solution compliance with the relevant Architecture Principles, roadmaps and technology standards
  • Support multiple IT and business teams, finding and using best practice and emerging technologies
  • Be responsible for solving complex and high-risk issues and delivering architecture design documentation
  • Provide expert advice and support to a range of stakeholders regarding Digital services, ensuring customer requirements are met and best value for money is obtained for the Council

What skills and experience do you need to have?

  • Proven experience of managing a Solutions Architecture function in a large complex organisation
  • Proven experience of managing, motivating and continually developing staff to deliver strong performance
  • Provision of accurate financial and technical information
  • Contributing to development of technology roadmaps that are in line with business strategies and business capability model
  • Extensive knowledge of Enterprise Architecture and Solutions Architecture principles and concepts
  • Knowledge of datacentre and cloud-based reference architectures, capabilities, tools and technologies enabling design decisions
  • Experience in evaluating, selecting and onboarding architecture tools (LeanIX is preferred)

Our Digital Services Team is contractually based in Matlock, Derbyshire, but we work on a hybrid basis.

    • £49,178 - £52,937 per year
