    Your Role

    As Principal Planning Officer, you will:

    • Lead and Inspire: Support the Strategic Planning Manager in managing the Strategic Planning Service and mentoring a high-performing team.
    • Shape Policy: Drive the creation and delivery of the new Local Plan and other key planning policy documents.
    • Build the Evidence Base: Oversee research, data analysis, and consultant-led studies to inform robust policy decisions.
    • Champion Sustainability: Lead on environmental planning strategies aligned with Council priorities.
    • Streamline Processes: Enhance planning procedures to reflect best practice and deliver results.
    • Collaborate Across Boundaries: Work closely with internal teams, external partners, and stakeholders to align strategic objectives.
    • Engage the Public: Lead meaningful consultation and engagement, ensuring community voices shape our plans.
    • Advise with Authority: Provide expert input on complex planning matters and represent the Council at appeals and inquiries.

    What You Will Bring

    • Proven Expertise: Significant experience in strategic planning and policy development.
    • Professional Credentials: A degree in Town Planning or a related field; RTPI membership is desirable.
    • Leadership & Vision: Strong project management, communication, and leadership skills.
