Enfield Legal Services are seeking to recruit an experienced lawyer into the role of Principal Lawyer (Contracts and Companies). You will report directly to the Director of Law and Governance and will be a member of the departmental management team.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a talented and ambitious individual to join a highly regarded, professional and committed in-house legal team and to lead on some major commercial projects and to lead on legal work relating to our Council-owned companies, as well as leading our team of specialist contract lawyers.
Local Government experience is essential and we need someone who has a real expertise in contracts, procurement, grants, commercial matters, companies and trading and, ideally, with some knowledge and experience of the links between regeneration work and procurement. We need someone who can personally handle a caseload of complex legal work and who can also lead and manage a team of other highly skilled individuals. You will need to demonstrate excellent client care skills and will have a good knowledge of local authority law and practice. You will be required to deal with chief officers and elected members and will be required to attend some evening meetings, including Cabinet, from time to time.
Our working patterns are hybrid and lawyers are required to attend the office to work between 2 and 3 days per week depending on the role. We work collaboratively and flexibly and welcome applications from all members of the community. We are employers that develop talent, encourage innovation and have a supportive working environment. If you want to be part of our journey, we would love to hear from you. All roles are open to Solicitors, Barristers or Fellows of CILEX.

We do not see your name or title when shortlisting your application. This is one of many initiatives to build a more talented and diverse workforce. However, if you put your name on your CV or Statement it will be visible to us. For this reason, we ask that you do not include your name on these documents. Please note it is your responses to the Essential/Desirable criteria, as detailed in the Job Description and Person Specification which is available on the job advert, that will determine if you are shortlisted for an interview, therefore we encourage you to always address the essential and desirable criteria in your application/CV.
