The Public Realm team are responsible for driving up recycling, preventing waste and helping improve the cleanliness of Newham’s streets and parks. This is an exciting time to join our team, to assist with the development of services to drive performance across the portfolio in the bid to tackle the climate emergency.
About the Job
As Environment Improvement Manager, you will lead and deliver a range of improvement projects across Street Cleansing, Waste, Recycling, and Parks within the Public Realm Directorate. The role will drive strategic change by implementing our existing Strategy and Policy, meeting new statutory requirements, and delivering ambitious plans to increase recycling, reduce contamination and support the roll out of our borough-wide food waste service. The post holder will shape communications and engagement strategies (with support from Corporate Communications) to:
- Reduce waste production
- Promote reuse and recycling
- Tackle fly-tipping
- Improve the cleanliness and quality of public spaces
The post holder will manage budgets and lead a small high-performing team, ensuring projects are delivered on time and to the highest standards.
About You
Are you passionate about creating cleaner, greener, and more sustainable communities? We’re looking for an Environment Improvement Manager to lead innovative projects that make a real difference to the quality of life in our borough. You’ll have knowledge and experience working with front line services along with experience in developing and delivering communications to residents and stakeholders. You also require experience of project management, procurement and financial management along with staff management. Experience of working within the Waste and Recycling, Street Cleansing or Parks service areas is essential.
