We are looking for a passionate, enthusiastic and energetic Playworker to support the delivery of school holiday play provision across Blaenau Gwent.

About the role

A highly motivated Level 2 Playworker is required to join the Childcare and Play Team. The successful candidate will be committed to providing a safe, stimulating environment to promote every child’s right to play.

You will be responsible for supporting the delivery of our school holiday play sessions that offer a range of play opportunities aimed to promote the natural environment. The aim is to help children and young people identify their goals and build the skills and experience to allow them to reach their full potential, helping them to build friendships and form lasting social networks.

There is a responsibility for the post holder to demonstrate a commitment to quality service delivery through continuous improvement for the benefit of the Service and the Local Authority.

Working hours: The post holder will be required to be available for up to 28hrs per week during the school holidays

  • Summer (5 weeks)
  • October half term (1 week)
  • February (1 week)
  • Easter (2 week)
  • May (1 week)

Please note: This post is currently funded until 31st March 2026.

The position carries an Approved Casual Car User Allowance therefore access to a vehicle for work purposes is a requirement.

Thorough pre-employment screening is undertaken during the recruitment process. The postholder will be required to complete an application for a Disclosure of Criminal Records.

About you

The ideal candidate will have/be:

  • Level 2 in Playwork
  • Experience of working with children ideally in playwork provision or a community-based setting
  • Ability to engage, motivate and communicate with children and young people
  • Ability to work on own initiative and part of a team
  • Good organisational, planning and problem solving skills
  • Dedicated, passionate, enthusiastic and resilient
  • Willingness to travel throughout Blaenau Gwent
