Rugby Borough Council is dedicated to both community and colleague growth. With a focus on wellbeing and personal development, we offer a range of career opportunities where you can take pride in the positive changes you help create. Join an organisation committed to the success of one of the Country’s fastest-growing boroughs and the people who make it thrive.

About the role

Do you have an interest in urban and rural planning? Do you want to be involved in the Borough as it grows and develops and get an insight into how the planning process works across a range of projects that are diverse in size, scale and type?

This is a great opportunity to join the Planning team to learn all about how they work, play an integral part in it and develop some great technical skills along the way with full support of the wider team.

This is a varied role where you’ll be part of a small team responsible for undertaking the technical process of registering, checking, validating and consulting of planning applications etc through the Council’s planning software system and ensuring the Council’s website is updated in accordance with the relevant planning legislation and locally adopted procedures.

You will also be involved in the processing and delivery of search requests into the Council and to provide technical support within the Development Management, Major Projects & Regeneration, and Economic Development teams by monitoring in-boxes, electronic case management, raising orders/goods receipting, maintaining planning records and producing information to aid the Planning Committee process.

You and the team will act as the first point of contact for all general planning queries including advice on the need for planning permission and you will also support officers in the administration of the planning process, so a working knowledge of the UK planning system would be desirable.

Explaining every step of planning procedures to our customers is vital to our success, and your achievements will be based not only on your ability to do your job but also on putting customer service at the heart of everything you do.

About you

Foremostly you’ll have a keen interest in the world of planning – we’re not asking for you to know much about it, just enough to know that it’s something you’d like to learn more about and immerse yourself in.

You’ll be an excellent administrator with an eye for detail, a pride in your accuracy and someone who enjoys learning about and using specialist IT systems.

Great communication skills, adaptability, and an enjoyment of thriving under pressure will help you succeed, helped by your ability to prioritise and work efficiently.

Alongside this you’ll be a great communicator who enjoys providing clear and consistent advice to both customer and colleagues.
